photography
I photograph all things in the natural world from fungi and flowers to birds, insects and mammals. Birds and flowers are the most obvious, the former being good subjects for sound recording. Living in the Scottish Highlands, the woods, moors, lochs and mountains provide a myriad of locations and subjects for my work.
The writings of naturalist Desmond Nethersole Thomson were an early spur to my special interests and over many years I have especially enjoyed trying to capture these species in their natural habitat. The dotterel was one bird studied by Nethersole-Thomson and as a hill walker had often been seen by me over the years. Protected by legislation, only a narrow window of opportunity exists for their photography and a much treasured moment, after many years, was to see and photograph a pair mating in a high place. However there are many other species which are a little special to Highland Scotland and some images of them appear at https://www.flickr.com/photos/128078931@N06/ or
